Tim Lane’s commitment to public service is rooted in his strong values as a father, husband, coach, and community advocate. With over 35 years of experience in both government and community leadership, Tim has dedicated his career to protecting families, strengthening our neighborhoods, and ensuring the well-being of our most vulnerable.
Elected as a Trustee on the Menands Village Board and appointed to the Albany County Legislature in January, Tim’s leadership has made a tangible difference in the lives of his neighbors and constituents. Throughout his career, Tim has worked to improve the lives of children and families, with a particular focus on those in need.
Tim's extensive career includes serving as a Senior Child Support Specialist with New York State’s Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA), where he earned the OTDA Commissioner’s Award for Outstanding Achievement. His work in this role, as well as his time as a Senior Child Support Investigator with the Albany County Department of Social Services, reflects his deep dedication to ensuring that families are supported and that justice is served.
A tireless advocate for those experiencing hardship, Tim was instrumental in establishing Albany County’s first Homeless Housing Unit. His ability to turn challenges into solutions is a testament to his leadership and commitment to improving the community.
Tim’s broad experience also includes serving as a member of the Capital Region Transportation Council, where he has worked to improve regional infrastructure and ensure that our area remains connected and accessible. Tim served as a coach for the Watervliet Youth Soccer League program for several years. His past leadership roles as President of the Mohawk-Hudson Association of Village Officials and Council Leader and Shop Steward with the Public Employees Federation #234 further demonstrate his ability to collaborate, lead, and advocate for positive change.
For 20 years, Tim served on Colonie’s Community Development Citizen’s Advisory Committee, appointed by Republican Supervisor Mary Brizell. He also served on the Town of Colonie Planning Board from 2008 to 2016, appointed by Democratic Supervisor Paula Mahan. This bipartisan experience has given Tim a well-rounded perspective and the ability to work across party lines for the benefit of his community.
